First, CONGRATULATIONS, on such an honor! Second, I have to say I'm in awe of your great work with your students. I just found blog and your class website and I'm glad I did. The letters to your class were so poetic, heartfelt and exactly what a teenager needs from his/her teacher. Thank you for being an awesome teacher and thank you for being such an inspiration to this teacher-librarian.

Terrifically pleased to have finally crossed paths with you, Ben, after reading your post -- "The Ripe Environment" -- which you and I have already briefly spoken about together.

Had a chance to listen to your podcasted convo with Steve Hargadon this morning, as well as spent a great deal of time exploring your classroom work re: utopias. Fascinated by the wide range of tools your students are beginning to use in order to produce and showcase their work. And most impressed by the "Academy of Discovery" concept that you have co-built with a colleague at school. I sense that we'll see it widely published in the years ahead.

Finally, all of this led me to discover your recent selection by Edutopia, Yahoo, etc. as the 2007 "Wired Teacher". Fantastic news. Have no doubt this is only the beginning for you and your students in terms of the discovery process and well-earned respect. Hopefully we'll see some of your kids named "Wired Student" one day soon (as soon as they realize how valuable such an award would be!).

As a guy who is returning to the classroom after a 3-year break this fall, I look forward to having you in my network to learn from along the way.

Cheers,
Christian

Congrats, Ben! What a nice recognition of all that you are trying to do to encourage the responsible use of technology in the classroom. You have already done a great deal and inspired many, including myself. Keep up the good work!
